JACKIE WEINBERG'S "ALBUM OF PHANTOM" is the story of an ordinary couple from the Bronx and their escape from a totalitarian country in which they can never leave. When you are part of the majority, your government will do everything in its power to prevent you from escaping. Only a handful of people from the country have the ability to leave and this is where Joe (Ron Silver) and his wife (Tracy Scoggins) come in. From day one, the couple is ignored and they are harassed. When they run afoul of the police, they are detained for questioning. When the couple is released, they are arrested and beaten by the police. This happens several times throughout the film. The film was a dark and realistic look at the totalitarian system and its effects on the human spirit. However, it is the ending of the film that was the most shocking. The couple is shown trying to leave the country but they are arrested again and again. It is almost as if their jailers don't want them to leave. The couple decides to remain in the country and live the rest of their lives in a bunker with a video camera. The couple realizes they are not the only people in the country and they realize that there are others who have the power to leave. The couple escapes through the wilderness. They decide to go into the mountains where they find a long cave and they hope to hide from the people of the country. However, they are apprehended and again they are put in prison. The couple eventually makes it to the middle of the country and they decide to leave. They try to make it out of the country but the authorities hunt them down and catch them again. They find a refuge in a town and then they realize they are caught in a land that was already populated by other people. In an attempt to escape the country they have to fight for their lives. The couple wins their fight and they are able to leave. "Album of Phantoms" is a must see for any true fan of independent film.
