Description After Portland slacker John Callahan (Joaquin Phoenix) nearly loses his life in a car accident, the last thing he intends to do is give up drinking. But when he reluctantly enters treatment - with encouragement from his girlfriend (Rooney Mara) and a charismatic sponsor (Jonah Hill) - Callahan discovers a gift for drawing edgy, irreverent newspaper cartoons that develop a national following and grant him a new lease on life. Based on a true story, this poignant, insightful and often funny drama about the healing power of art is adapted from Callahan's autobiography and directed by two-time Oscar® nominee Gus Van Sant. Jack Black, Carrie Brownstein, Beth Ditto and Kim Gordon also star.

While The Life of David Gale (Alfred Hitchcock's version of the story of this court case) is not a masterpiece, it is definitely a great movie and definitely worth seeing. The production value is good and the direction is quite good. It is hard to believe that this is the director of the cult classic Psycho. The story of David Gale's affair with the wife of one of the judges in the murder trial is gripping and interesting and the screenplay by Michael Chapman and Michael Suchet is quite good. The film also contains many brilliant scenes. The most obvious and memorable scene is the first meeting between Gale and Judge Walter White. This scene is excellent. The scene in which Gale and White exchange views on their children's condition is also very good. The final scene between Gale and Judge White is very interesting and very well shot. The rest of the movie is quite good. The film has a good pace and is very entertaining. It is also very entertaining to see the whole courtroom scene between Gale and White. I enjoyed it very much. One of the most important things about the film is that it is very intelligent and it takes the viewer on a very interesting and interesting journey. The ending is interesting as well. The writing is very good. The acting is very good and the supporting cast is also good. Overall, the film is very good and the writing and direction are very good. It is very entertaining to watch the whole courtroom scene between Gale and White. I strongly recommend this film. * out of *
