Michael Collins has always been known as an ex-Nazi but this documentary does little to disabuse us of this assumption. Rather it attempts to explain the connection between Collins and the Apollo program. The film begins with an interview with Dr. Collins and his colleague, Dr. James C. Griffin who is now a US Senator. Griffin is a very well-known expert on the moon program. We learn that Collins had a fascination with space exploration, especially after his father's death, and his appreciation of what it meant to the nation. He was also a believer in the Apollo program and is quoted as saying "I think we should have a moon base. That's why I wanted to go to space." Collins also has a strong belief in God, and the film quotes Collins as saying "If you believe in God, you have no excuse for not wanting to go to space". Griffin seems skeptical, but he also says that Collins would not have been able to imagine going to space if not for his faith. We then see the two leaders of NASA, Ed White and John Glenn, talking about the Apollo program. In their remarks, they do not mention the Holocaust, but they do talk about Collins. White says he found Collins' attitude about space exploration as strange, but Glenn says that he also saw that Collins was concerned about the future of humanity, and he looked at Collins as someone who could bring about a shift in society. Griffin also has a strong belief in God and he says that Collins is his "best friend in the world". Griffin and Collins even share a love of the Apollo program. The film then moves on to a discussion of the Apollo program and the problems they encountered in the United States. Griffin gives a statement saying that if they had actually succeeded in landing a man on the moon, there would have been a revolution. He quotes Collins as saying "The best thing I have seen in my life is the Apollo program". Griffin's response to Collins' assertion that he believes the Apollo program was a failure, is that "It's a success". Griffin, a Catholic, also says that Collins is a "role model" for the Catholic Church and that he is the one who would have got the Pope to take action. Griffin then talks about the differences between Collins and Griffin. Griffin says that Griffin is a strong believer in the United States, but he is not quite as dedicated to it. Griffin thinks that the moon program could have been a great success, but Collins says that he will always remember his flight. Griffin's views on the moon program are thus quite different to those of Collins, who is more pro-American. Griffin's opinions are also quite different from those of Collins, who is far more of an activist than Griffin. Griffin is also critical of the Apollo program, saying that it was a failure because it could not get the people to space, and it was too expensive. Griffin then says that the astronauts who went to space were "out of luck". Griffin's point is that the astronauts who went to space were not really in luck, but they were in a time of great political turmoil. Griffin states that there were many people in the United States who believed that the United States was not ready for the space program, and that it was not a very good idea to spend $70 million a year on a program that was not really ready for space. The film ends with Griffin giving a statement to the Senate that he is in favor of the space program. Griffin was also the one who convinced the President to take action

A very detailed look at the events of the Apollo 11 mission. The documentary is a must for Apollo 11 buffs and it's clear that the producers got a lot of stuff right: the scenes from the launch pad, the spacecraft, the astronauts, the controllers, the ground control, etc. The only thing I didn't like is that the production fell a little short in the technical details and that we didn't get to hear much from the astronauts, although we get to hear a few facts from them. The thing that made Apollo 11 really special was the simulation. Without that, the movie would not be nearly as special. And the simulation was much better than any of the movies I have seen from the same period. That said, the movie is not perfect. Some of the astronauts speak a bit too fast and it's possible that the soundtrack was not that great, even if it was probably not that bad. The movie was shot in three different ways, but they are all very good. The actors are all very convincing and they are all superb in their roles. The sound effects are very good and the movie is very well made. But at times it is a little bit hard to follow, especially in the last part, where a lot of the details are changed and the astronauts speak in very different languages. And the movie would have been much better if it had been at least a little longer. It is almost too short and that is not a good thing for a documentary. Overall, this is a very good documentary about one of the most significant moments of the 20th century. It's a very good documentary, with lots of good information and a good production. 7/10
