Description When filmmaker and investigative journalist Frances Causey, a daughter of the South, set out to explore the continuing racial divisions in the US, what she discovered was that the politics of slavery didn't end with the Civil War. In an astonishingly candid look at the United States' original sin, The Long Shadow traces slavery's history from America's founding up through its insidious ties to racism today.

I have never written a review before, but feel compelled to do so. I'm a documentary film maker and the reason why I decided to give this movie a go is to let everyone know that the amount of negative reviews and bad press this movie has received is totally unjustified and I believe is entirely undeserved. First of all, I'm not a movie critic. I do not go to film festivals and see every film ever made. I also don't have a vendetta against this movie or anyone associated with it. I think it is a really good movie. Yes, the way it was presented was not the best, but that's not what makes it a good movie. It's what I love about it. I really loved the cinematography and the use of the different lighting methods. The performances were great and the director and editor did an outstanding job with the narrative. I thought the scene with the bird in the cage was absolutely amazing. I also really enjoyed the color pallet of the movie. I am not a cinematographer, but I am very familiar with the different colors used in movies and I thought the color palette used in this movie was brilliant. I do not think the movie was designed for people who are not into movies, but for people who are into movies and are just wanting to see a really good documentary. I think this is a great movie, and I strongly recommend it. The only reason it doesn't get a 10 is because of the ratings that it has received and the bad reviews it has received. If you're a movie lover who is into documentaries, you will enjoy this movie. I also hope that this movie does not get a sequel and that people stop going to the movies to see it, because the movie is very good. I would recommend this movie to anyone. I also think it is worth mentioning that this movie is not for people who want to be entertained by seeing something "artsy". This movie is for people who want to see a good, well-crafted documentary. If you like documentaries, you will enjoy this movie.
