I agree with the other comment about the relative inaccessibility of the world in this movie. The majority of this movie was in Israel, the United States, and other countries in Europe. I think the reason for this is that the two principal characters, Isaac and Shmuel, are from the "street", and therefore the English language and the English language of the viewers can be assumed. In the first hour, the idea of the movie was to show the basic relationships of a person living in a ghetto and how it affects his or her family. The director of the movie, Paul McBride, also wrote a book about it called "The Beginning". In my opinion, this movie was a success, because the main character Isaac (played by Anson Mount) was able to adapt to his ghetto environment. However, I think that the director, Paul McBride, could have made the movie even more interesting by having the main character Shmuel (played by Greg Kinnear) more involved in the story. I believe that Shmuel is the one who does not have the economic resources to travel from one country to another and to have enough time to write about the experience he is going through. I also agree with the comment that Isaac is not in the United States, so the director has to include the other characters from the ghetto. The movie also shows how the situation affects the family members and how they cope with the difficulties in their lives. The director has also included the ghetto in the movie, and the audience is able to recognize it. In conclusion, I think that this movie is a wonderful documentary about the existence of a ghetto in Israel. I recommend it to anyone who loves the subject of the ghetto.
