Mwawai,is a fantastic film about the human impact of colonialism. The film is set in postcolonial Mauritius and depicts the efforts of a group of young men to be part of a modern society, even though they are foreign-born Africans. The group is formed by Jacob Zemadja, who is a graduate student, James, who is an engineering student and Isha, an associate teacher. Isha is a really smart and beautiful woman who is always trying to get her job done. James has an abnormal educational background. He was born in a former colony, Senegal, and has a father who has been living in the same slum for decades. James, the young graduate student, has a mother who worked as a maid in the slum before she was married and later became a teacher in the slum. It is not until James and Isha become close that they start to form a relationship. The film is narrated in one take by Jacob Zemadja who talks about the daily life of the slum residents, sometimes reflecting the thoughts of the inhabitants. He also talks about the problems that the residents have with the colonial colonial government of Mauritius. The film is really inspiring. Jacob Zemadja, who also had to go through many life experiences as a child, was able to turn his thoughts and emotions to a form that he wanted to convey to the people of the slum. James and Isha meet up with other slum residents and discuss the problems that the slum residents have with the colonial colonial government and they bring up these issues with the adults in the slum. After the meeting, Jacob asks Isha, who was in the slum for 30 years, if she has any tips on how to get a job in the slum. Isha says she has worked as a maid in the slum for 30 years and is very particular about what she eats. James says he was born in Senegal and wants to go to the United States for his family. The discussions of these different people are very moving. James tries to convince the community that they have to make a decision about what to do with their lives, and when the slum residents finally do, they come to a decision. In the end, it is the human beings that make the real decisions, and the film shows us that decisions do not happen in a way that makes sense to the colonial colonial government. The slum residents decide to move to a city in Mauritius, Kambia, where they will have better opportunities and better lives.

After spending more than five years in jail for a bank robbery, a former gang member, Donny Jones (George C. Scott) turns to becoming a security guard at a local prison. After he is assigned to guard a cell, he is ambushed and killed. However, a man claiming to be the man's killer escapes from prison and starts murdering people. Donny's wife, Rosanna (Julia Roberts) takes his son Michael (Elijah Wood) to live with his aunt, Ruth (Mia Kirshner), who is a nurse. Soon Michael is infected with a fatal disease and is placed in a hospital, where he is adopted by Rose (Claire Danes) and is working towards a career in music. Michael becomes very protective of his adoptive brother and his uncle. Soon the cops and a guard are in on the family business. It is very difficult to explain the plot of this film. It is described as a revenge story, so naturally it is full of violence and sex. It is very hard to describe the plot, but in general it is a well told story, with some fine performances, especially by George C. Scott. Unfortunately, a film of this kind is bound to be a little disappointing. It is a bit too long and I thought it was going to be another revenge story or a dark crime thriller. There are many movies that could have been made with this kind of plot. However, the only two good performances in this film were by George C. Scott and Mia Kirshner. They both did a great job with this story and I would recommend watching this film if you like action movies, revenge stories or really dark stories.
