Children are never as good as their parents, and some of the greatest parents of children, to date, have been those of whom a child's natural abilities are at least as good as their own. For instance, the king of France, who is portrayed in this film as a caring, loving father and grandfather, is actually the father of a child with autism. It is possible that the child was simply not of the right age to have an understanding of the importance of good parenting. (For a discussion of the critical need for good parental training, see this article by Kathryn Davis, an adult mother of a boy with autism.) The film "Babel" which was about a little boy named Benjamin, a boy with autism who was born in the 1940's, revealed an insight into the way parents were raised and taught in the 1940's. The films' director, Nicholas Meyer, has shown some of the same dedication to the family of a child with autism. This film is about a boy named William. William is a normal boy who is born into a typical American family. William is raised by his parents. William's parents have lots of toys and books. William's parents also send him to the "Wonderful World of Abigail" where the parents teach him a lot of things. William's parents also take him to a swimming pool, where he is very happy to swim. But this is where he meets "the boy with the oxygen tank". At this time, William has all of the motor skills of a normal boy. But when his parents learn that William is autistic, they start to think of him differently. They look at him as a "freak" and start to ignore his strengths. William's parents begin to believe that he is really special. This is when William begins to act strangely. He starts to put on the mask that he was born with. He becomes more distant. When William is alone, he becomes aggressive. He becomes more reckless. And when William has his life changed, the parents are not able to accept it. So the parents attempt to take the mask off. When this is attempted, William does not take it off. He takes it off and talks to his mother, who is speechless. When William is finally separated from his parents, William is still able to communicate with his mother, but his mother is not able to accept him. So he has to go away. In the end, William's parents and William go to a school for autistic children. William shows his parents that he can be happy with them. So
