An obscure German comedy/drama, made in 1983 by the writer/director Helmut Schmidt, featuring an all-star cast of German stars including Eberhard Schönberg, Dieter Herzog, Hermann Nitschke and Werner Schlöber. Helmut Schmidt writes the screenplay and is also the cinematographer, and all actors, both German and foreign, do a very good job with the material. The story is set in 1950, in Cologne, Germany. A handsome, rich college student's (Schönberg) life is turned upside down when his old love (Herzog) dies, leaving him to support his family. The young, bright and ambitious Eberhard starts to fall for the older and more experienced, older, and therefore more successful writer (Herzog). He also becomes a student of Eberhard's writings and takes a liking to him. All this is played out in a series of funny, somewhat childish moments. Eberhard's work and Eberhard's writing become more and more important as the film progresses. The father-daughter relationship is shown as very disturbing, but their efforts to cope with the situation are extremely funny. A plotline involving the high school production of "A Streetcar Named Desire" becomes a major point of the film. It is a very touching and almost poetic film that shows how people can change over time. Many other points of the film, such as the work of Hermann Nitschke, the production of a pornographic film (and many more) are well handled and, as a result, a very moving film. This film is a great example of how filmmaking can sometimes work in the favor of a filmmaker. This movie is worth seeing for its comedy and its portrayal of human emotions.

For those who are asking what this movie is about, that question needs to be answered by all who have seen it. The movie was a treat to watch, thanks to the writer-director who was able to keep it that way. As a matter of fact, I may be the first one to point out that it is a movie that offers a feast for the eyes. The photography is impressive, as it goes out to the environment with some sequences that are picturesque in a foreign way. I don't want to spoil the film, but I will say that the very first sequence was absolutely breathtaking. I don't want to give the plot away, but I will say that it is interesting and you will understand it. This movie has a message, which I find very relevant in the present moment. It is not the ending of the movie, that you would probably expect, but rather the beginning. Not only the story but also the acting is brilliant, although the characters in the movie are not usually that dynamic, that they seem like actors in a play, in contrast to the original story of End of Watch. It is a pleasure to watch such an engaging story, so many of them being interesting, so that you could care about them, but not very much. What impressed me most was the way the story told. The story flows in a very simple way, and I found it very interesting. This kind of simplicity doesn't necessarily mean a weak or bad story. A story can be good or bad if it is told in a way that can make you care. And this was achieved by being able to tell the story in a very simple and simple way. I would love to see the story told in a way that it was able to make you think. This was the main element that was impressive about the movie, so all in all, this is a wonderful movie that will surely entertain. 9/10
